用作物質名詞，泛指壹般意義的水果，不可數。如:
Fruit is cheapest in season. 水果在上市季節最便宜
2. 若表示水果的種類，則為可數名詞。如:
The mango is a tropical fruit. 芒果是種熱帶水果?
3. 雖然在強調種類時fruit可用作可數名詞，但與表示種類的kind of, type of, sort of等搭配時，fruit通常是不可數的，因為其種類意味已經體現在kind, type, sort等詞上面。
如:
I like all kinds of fruit, especially apples. 各種各樣水果我都喜歡，特別是蘋果。
