1、福爾摩斯探案集作者阿瑟·柯南·道爾?柯南·道爾壹***寫了四篇長篇、56篇短篇的福爾摩斯系列小說。
2、最早寫的兩篇分別是1887年畢頓聖誕年刊的《血字的研究》， 以及1890年理本科特月刊登出的《四簽名》。 而1891年開始在斯特蘭德雜誌(The Strand)上的壹系列短篇小說連載，***包括《冒險史》《回憶錄》正續 使福爾摩斯的受歡迎程度爆炸性的水漲船高。
3、但直到1927年，柯南·道爾先生才再寫出續集《歸來記》《最後致意》《新探案》等。故事的發生年代大約集中在1875~1907年。 而他的最後壹案發生在1914年。
4、絕大多數的故事，是以福爾摩斯的朋友及傳記作家約翰·H·華生醫師的角度敘述的。只有兩篇是由福爾摩斯親自敘述、兩篇是由第三人稱角度撰寫。
