本科成績單：中英文的各壹份，並須經過學校公證。
英文水平證明：壹般應具有托福成績。與美國不同的是，香港的大學並不要求壹定要ETS寄送成績，而是只要原件的復印件即可。有些大學如甚至不壹定要托福成績，大陸的四、六級證書也可接受。不過壹個好的托福成績顯然更有競爭力。
GRE成績：隨著競爭的激烈，香港的大學現在有要求GRE成績，與托福壹樣，只需復印件即可。這兩項可以為我們節省24美元。
申請表格：壹般來說，只要發壹個電子郵件給招生辦公室或者系裏，對方便會寄來有關表格。不過與美國不同的是，香港的大學會要求妳說明自己的研究意向，當然只要壹個很寬泛的範圍即可，無須非常具體。材料壹般是免費的，如果覺得麻煩，甚至可以從網上下載，如城市大學提供PDF和WORD兩種格式，而香港大學只提供PDF格式。中文大學比較麻煩，它要求妳先寄10港幣左右的匯票過去，然後才寄材料來，也許是壹種名校的架子吧。
研究計劃：這是與美國大學不同的壹點，也是最重要的壹點。這與美國的大學要求的PERSONALSTATEMENT完全不同，研究計劃（RESEARCHPROPOSAL）是純學術的，無須加入諸如個人經歷、感情這些東西。它要求申請者要有壹個明確的研究方案並對此有較好的掌握。這個計劃必須是非常具體的，不能太寬泛。研究計劃壹般包括以下幾點：
（1）研究對象（TOPIC），即妳想要解決的問題
（2）研究此問題的意義
（3）前人的研究狀況即遺留的問題
（4）妳的研究方法（METHODOLOGY）
（5）參考文獻（BIBLIOGRAPHY）：這壹點很重要，但往往會被忽視。
壹般來說，系裏會建議妳先與某位教授聯系，確定研究的題目、方法等，取得教授的同意後，在遞交正式的計劃。當然，如果妳能引起教授的註意，請他為妳提意見甚至給妳修改，那幺成功的幾率就很大了。
推薦信：香港大學壹般只要兩封推薦信，但必須是學術領域中的人，其它人則不被接受。推薦信是壹、兩份表格，而不是洋洋灑灑的壹大篇。其內容是對妳學術才能的評價。此外還要求對妳的研究計劃做出評價和建議，這壹點也不應忽視。
此外就剩下申請費（APPLICATIONFEE）了。香港的大學申請費比美國低得多，壹般壹百多港幣，壹般人均能承受。
申請時要註意的是，如果想得到獎學金，必須申請全日制（FULLTIME）。香港的生活水平很高，學費加生活費至少需要壹萬港幣每月，壹般人肯定讀不起，不過如果得到獎學金的話（約壹萬四到壹萬五每月），所有開銷便無須擔心了。
