語法用法
at present，for the present都屬於固定搭配格式，不能修改成at the present，in present等其他格式。前者指“現在”，後者指“暫時”；
at present同presently意思不同，但前者常用於現在時，表示“目前”，後者則常用於將來時，表示“壹會兒”；
present和gift的比較：present指“禮物”，但gift可以不是“禮物”。Birthday/Christmas gift中，gift屬於禮物。在別人需要而將東西送給他時，如壹本舊書或是把書捐給圖書館，都屬於gift，但不算送“禮”；
表示“把…送給（某人)”的幾種說法： He presented a book to her.He presented her with a book.He made her a present of a book.
present作形容詞時，常用於名詞後，指“出席的”。 There are other people present.還有其他人出席。

present作形容詞表示“出席的,到場的”“存在的,含有的”時在句中主要用作表語,偶爾用作定語,壹般須後置。表示“現在的,目前的,現行的”“正在處理或討論中的”時只用作前置定語。
present無比較級和最高級。
present作“出席的”“在場的”解時用作後置定語,這是因為此時present表示的特征是“暫時的”,而不是“永久的”。類似的形容詞還有absent, concerned, involved等。

present用作“現在,目前”解時,通常與定冠詞the連用,只用作單數名詞。
present作“禮物”解時,壹般指親友間互送的“禮物”或“贈品”,多是出於好意、禮貌或尊敬等而予以贈送,並不壹定期望報答或回贈。是可數名詞。
v.(動詞)
present的基本意思是“出現”,指人時多指“到場”“出席”,指物或事物時則指“顯示”。多接反身代詞作賓語。
present也可作“介紹”“引見”解,多用於涉及的人地位高低不等的場合。
present可作“贈送,給予”解,此時多接雙賓語,其間接賓語可以轉化為介詞to的賓語。
