The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar month. It is a time for family members to congregate and enjoy the full moon, which is a symbol of abundance, harmony and luck. Adults usually indulge in fragrant mooncakes of various kinds with a good cup of hot Chinese tea, while the children run around with their brightly-lit rabbit lanterns.?
月宮裏美麗的仙女嫦娥的神話故事賦予了這個節日神話色彩。傳說古時候，天空曾有10個太陽圍著地球旋轉。後羿射下了其中9個太陽，拯救了地球上的生靈。他偷了長生不老藥，卻被妻子嫦娥偷偷喝下，從而產生了嫦娥奔月的故事。
The festival was endowed a mythological flavour with legends of Chang-E, the beautiful lady in the moon. According to Chinese mythology, the earth once had 10 suns circling over it. Hou Yi, shot down 9 of the suns to save all the lives on carth. He stole the elixir of life, which can make people immortal. However, his wife, Chang-E drank it. Thus the legend of Chang-E flying into the moon came into being.
2006年中秋節被列為中國的文化遺產，2008年又被定為公***假日。月餅被視為中秋節不可或缺的美食，人們將月餅作為禮物饋贈親友或家庭聚會上享用。傳統的月餅帶有”壽、”福”或”和”等字樣。
In 2006, the Mid-Autumn was listed as a China cultural heritage, and in 2008 designated as a public holiday. The moon cake, an indispensable food of the Festival, is often used as a gift for relatives and friends or enjoyed in the family party. Traditional moon cakes are imprinted with Chinese characters with such
meanings as“longevity",“happiness" or“harmony".
