something的用法

“something”是壹個使用頻率極高的代詞，其最基本的含義是“某物；某事”：There is something on the floor．（地板上有壹樣東西）I want somethingto eat．（我想吃東西。）但當它與其他詞構成短語，或在某些句子中單獨使用時，常有較活譯法。請看下列例句。壹、something相當於somebody，意為“重要的人物，有壹定地位的人”。例如：He thinks that he is something．他認為自己是個了不起的人物。二、something表示“某種令人滿意的事，使人安慰的事或不簡單的事”。例如：It is something to be home again without an accident．能平平安安地回家是值得安慰的。三、something用於表示“某種令人不快的事情”。例如：He must be up to something．他壹定在搞什麽鬼花招。There is something in the wind．（口語）好像要發生什麽事情。四、something表示“有些道理”。例如：There is something in what he says．他說的話有些道理。五、or something表示“不能十分肯定的人、東西、情況”等。例如：Mr Green is a shopkeeper or something．格林先生是個店老板之類的人。I hear that he has broken an arm or something．我聽說他已折了壹只手臂或別的什麽。六、something or other表示“壹個什麽東西，壹件什麽事情”。例如：I'm sure I've lost something or other．我壹定掉了壹樣什麽東西了。七、 something else“別的什麽東西，別的什麽事情”。例如：We cannot leave，because we have something else to do．我們不能走，因為我們還有別的事要幹。八、something of意為“有點……，可說是壹個……，在某種程度上是”。例如：The man was something of a genius．這個人算是個天才。She is something of a singer．她是壹位相當不錯的歌唱家。九、 something like相當於壹個副詞，表示“有點像；大約”等意思。例如：He is something like his brother．他有點像他哥哥。His knowledge of English is something like as good as yours．他的英語知識跟妳差不多。He is something like a playboy．他有點像個花花公子。This happened something like more than a year ago．這件事大約是壹年多以前發生的。
