黑暗堡壘-火線同盟
黑暗堡壘催生的新音樂革命計劃 ---- The Rising Tied 火線同盟
「The Rising Tied」--- 壹張最令人期待，來自由麥克組成Fort Minor的首張專輯，將會在2005年11月22號，由Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros發行。由傑斯擔任執行制作人(在2004「沖擊理論」專輯當中，和聯合公園有精采的對撞火花)。整張專輯由麥克擔任制作人，並親自操刀混音，專輯裏的每壹首歌，也都是由麥克親自撰寫，幾乎所有的樂器都由他下海彈奏，親自監控專輯裏的每個細節。
麥克選擇Fort Minor(黑暗堡壘)這具有絕對沖突感的名字發表此張音樂作品，是希望呈現極端元素並置時所可能激蕩衍生出的動能與創作力量。(浩大強勁與渺小微弱的2 方元素對峙時產出的沖擊力，”渺小微弱/ minor”在音樂上有晦暗悲傷的含意。)。專輯名稱The Rising Tied同樣地也在字裏行間裏嗅出饒富哲學思想的意義.。麥克表示所有參與這次專輯演出的朋友，都是來自於音樂世界的壹群好手。包括Machine Shop 旗下的藝人 Styles of Beyond 、Holly Brook, 凡夫俗子(Common)，約翰傳奇(John Legend), Kenna和來自紮根合唱團的Black Thought 。
以最貼近靈魂的方式向外發聲 在黑暗中被註目的發光體
身為聯合公園首腦之壹的麥克，對於創作音樂的渴望，驅動他骨髓裏深藏的嘻哈/MC細胞，他在創作出來的音樂裏，加入大量的酷炫元素。當這些元素匯集出足夠能量時，就代表著麥克的即將釋放出爆炸性的音樂火花，也象徵著他的全新音樂之旅也隨即展開。忠於自己嘻哈細胞的麥克，在創作這張專輯時，壹切都以”有機化” 方式調制。所謂”有機化”，就是專輯中所用到的樂器演奏音效，都是以真正樂器彈奏，而不以人工的電子合成樂來代替。「The Rising Tied」完整地釋放出麥克身上的創作動能，以最貼近麥克的方式，向嘻哈世界最嚴酷的考驗宣戰。
首支祭出的單曲 “Believe Me”，在搖搖欲墬的薄弱關系裏，以劇烈跳動的拍子為基底，註入拉丁節奏，伴隨大提琴的低音聲線，反映麥可體內的熱血對經典搖滾的狂愛。“High Road”彈跳著有如鋼琴大師比利喬手中流泄的音符，以幽默的聲調，流轉著興奮的節奏。在“Remember The Name”裏，麥克以第三人稱的方式，將壹般街頭饒舌裏的那種吹噓、自誇口吻，轉化成精細且微妙的文字節奏。” 5%歡愉、50%痛苦、還有100%的理由牢記這個名字”這就是壹小段來自“Remember The Name”裏文字遊戲。另外壹首歌“Where’d You Go?，算是麥克從沒嘗試過的抒情曲風。以輕輕悲嘆的口吻，唱給那些曾經迷失方向的妳和我，麥克還說，每次放這首歌時，老婆都會有感而發而落淚。
單曲“Right Now”，這首歌的創作靈感，來自於導演勞勃阿特曼(Robert Altman) 的電影Short Cuts(銀色性男女)。麥克、Black Thought和 S.O.B，***同打造這首有著不同層次的街頭音樂詩篇，以碎烈的鋼琴音符為襯底低聲呼喚，將本來分散的曲子緊緊縫合在壹起。“Back Home”壹曲，麥克回歸自我，描述洛杉磯的生活點滴。“Petrified”以諷刺的口吻，描述這個時代人們壹些不負責任的行為，整首歌有著不安的、危險的、恐懼的氣氛，可說是自幫派饒舌大哥Ice Cube(冰塊酷八)10年前發表的經典作 “Wicked”以來另壹首晦暗沈重的歌曲。* Wicked是gangsta rap經典代表作之壹。
在這張專輯當中，或是說在所有專輯當中，最特別的壹首歌就是“Kenji，這首饒舌回憶錄紀錄著於第二次大戰期間，在美國拘留所裏，日本公民被囚禁的故事。在這首歌裏，麥克的阿姨和父親也獻聲演出。曾在1940年被拘留在美國的他們，以音樂的力量，勾勒出壹幅幅蒼白的圖像，描繪當時在拘留所裏失去壹切的人們，他們的無言，他們的哀泣。麥克表示，去年他曾拜訪位於洛杉磯的日美國家博物館(Japanese-American National Museum)，造訪之後讓他想起家人告訴他的那些故事，那些有關於麥克家人如何被關在居留所裏的故事。當時他的家人並沒有做任何錯事，只因他們的身分在那個時空下，在那個情境裏，必須面對那樣的對待。麥克欣慰地表示：我必須以Fort Minor/黑暗堡壘的這個特殊角色，來為這個事件寫壹首歌。我非常感謝有了這另壹個身份，讓我可以創作在聯合公園裏我無法觸及的議題。
