這首歌的靈感來源於主唱Gerard Way 小時爸爸曾帶他去城中看遊行隊伍，對他說他自己總有壹天會死去叫他要勇敢地面對生命，不要放棄，永遠支持下去並幫助他人給他人帶來光明，帶大家走出黑暗，即使有死亡的阻撓，也要把精神代代傳承。
這張The Black Parade仍是壹張概念專輯，主題圍繞壹個即將死去的病人展開。主唱Gerard Way接受iTunes采訪時說：“這張專輯講述了壹個在醫院中死去的病人的故事。在即將死去的那段日子，他極力的回顧自己的壹生，總結自己所犯的錯誤。他印象最深的是小時候爸爸帶他去參加壹個遊行的事情。因此，死亡來臨的時候以black parade的形式。”
