"copycat"的由來

遠在莎士比亞的時代，"貓"在人們眼中的地位卑微，常被用來形容微不足道或討厭的東西。如莎士比亞的"皆大歡喜"中就有 "A pox upon him for me

he's more and more a Cat" 這樣的句子。後來人們就把"cat"和"copy"連在壹起，用來形容模仿別人舉止的討厭鬼。Copycat最早見諸文字，是在1896年S. O. Jewett的作品"Country of Pointed Firs"中，原句是"I ain't heard of a copy-cat this great many years. It was a favorite term of my grandmother's"。
