當然修飾avoid, specifying industrial performance 是來修飾thicket, 誰告訴妳狀語修飾是就近原則的，我學了十年英語也沒看到過這個語法，是有就近原則，可是是狀語修飾的就近原則？妳這句話會翻譯嗎，如果妳翻得出來，妳就懂了。而且上面劃的斜杠根本有問題。the assunption is that we can avoid goverment intervention /in the economically and politically hazardous thicket of specifying industrial performance/ by controlling certain aspects of industrial structure and competitive conduct.
