rotten（rot）通常表示蔬果、肉類、木材這類自然物質的腐爛、分解。

decay通常指由良好或完美的狀態自然而緩慢地變壞或完全變壞腐爛，或部分地毀壞，傾向描述衰退、衰減這種過程。

貪汙腐敗壹般則是用corrupt（corruption）。
