就近原則there be

There be的就近原則。就是它的動詞單復數取決於它後面接的最近的這個名詞。

比如，

There is a book and two pens.那裏有壹本書和兩支鋼筆。因為there 緊接的壹本書，所以後面用is。

There are two books and a pen.那裏有兩本書和壹支鋼筆，因為there緊接著兩本書，所以後面用are。
