Onceuponatimetherewasanoldmotherpigwhohadthreelittlepigsandnotenoughfoodtofeedthem.Sowhentheywereoldenough,shesentthemoutintotheworldtoseektheirfortunes.
Thefirstlittlepigwasverylazy.Hedidn'twanttoworkatallandhebuilthishouseoutofstraw.Thesecondlittlepigworkedalittlebitharderbuthewassomewhatlazytooandhebuilthishouseoutofsticks.Then,theysanganddancedandplayedtogethertherestoftheday.
Thethirdlittlepigworkedhardalldayandbuilthishousewithbricks.Itwasasturdyhousecompletewithafinefireplaceandchimney.Itlookedlikeitcouldwithstandthestrongestwinds.
Thenextday,awolfhappenedtopassbythelanewherethethreelittlepigslived;andhesawthestrawhouse,andhesmelledthepiginside.Hethoughtthepigwouldmakeamightyfinemealandhismouthbegantowater.
Soheknockedonthedoorandsaid:
Littlepig!Littlepig!Letmein!Letmein!
Butthelittlepigsawthewolf'sbigpawsthroughthekeyhole,soheansweredback:
No!No!No!Notbythehairsonmychinnychinchin!
Thenthewolfshowedhisteethandsaid:
ThenI'llhuffandI'llpuffandI'llblowyourhousedown.
Sohehuffedandhepuffedandheblewthehousedown!Thewolfopenedhisjawsverywideandbitdownashardashecould,butthefirstlittlepigescapedandranawaytohidewiththesecondlittlepig.
Thewolfcontinueddownthelaneandhepassedbythesecondhousemadeofsticks;andhesawthehouse,andhesmelledthepigsinside,andhismouthbegantowaterashethoughtaboutthefinedinnertheywouldmake.
Soheknockedonthedoorandsaid:
Littlepigs!Littlepigs!Letmein!Letmein!
Butthelittlepigssawthewolf'spointyearsthroughthekeyhole,sotheyansweredback:
No!No!No!Notbythehairsonourchinnychinchin!
Sothewolfshowedhisteethandsaid:

Sohehuffedandhepuffedandheblewthehousedown!Thewolfwasgreedyandhetriedtocatchbothpigsatonce,buthewastoogreedyandgotneither!Hisbigjawsclampeddownonnothingbutairandthetwolittlepigsscrambledawayasfastastheirlittlehooveswouldcarrythem.
Thewolfchasedthemdownthelaneandhealmostcaughtthem.Buttheymadeittothebrickhouseandslammedthedoorclosedbeforethewolfcouldcatchthem.Thethreelittlepigstheywereveryfrightened,theyknewthewolfwantedtoeatthem.Andthatwasvery,verytrue.Thewolfhadn'teatenalldayandhehadworkedupalargeappetitechasingthepigsaroundandnowhecouldsmellallthreeoftheminsideandheknewthatthethreelittlepigswouldmakealovelyfeast.
Sothewolfknockedonthedoorandsaid:

Butthelittlepigssawthewolf'snarroweyesthroughthekeyhole,sotheyansweredback:

Sothewolfshowedhisteethandsaid:

Well!hehuffedandhepuffed.Hepuffedandhehuffed.Andhehuffed,huffed,andhepuffed,puffed;buthecouldnotblowthehousedown.Atlast,hewassooutofbreaththathecouldn'thuffandhecouldn'tpuffanymore.Sohestoppedtorestandthoughtabit.
Butthiswastoomuch.Thewolfdancedaboutwithrageandsworehewouldcomedownthechimneyandeatupthelittlepigforhissupper.Butwhilehewasclimbingontotheroofthelittlepigmadeupablazingfireandputonabigpotfullofwatertoboil.Then,justasthewolfwascomingdownthechimney,thelittlepiggypulledoffthelid,andplop!infellthewolfintothescaldingwater.
Sothelittlepiggyputonthecoveragain,boiledthewolfup,andthethreelittlepigsatehimforsupper.
