Both用法淺談國畫欣賞 攝影：五壹快樂逛書店 溫曉霞 Both可作形容詞、代詞或副詞用，意思是“兩個”、“雙方”、“兩個都”。在句中可作主語、賓語或同位語。 如：Both are right.兩者都對。(主語) I like both.兩個我都喜歡。(賓語) Both可參與構成名詞詞組，也可和動詞連用，還可與and構成並列連詞。在使用時，要註意下列幾點： 壹、Both和both of後都可接復數名詞，構成名詞詞組。但Both後的名詞前可有定冠詞、指示代詞或物主代詞作修飾限定，也可沒有；both of後的名詞前卻壹定要有定冠詞、指示代詞或物主代詞作修飾限定。 如：可以說both(the these，her) children；也可以說both of the(these，her)children；但壹般不說both of children。 Both of後可接人稱代詞賓格，both後則不可；但人稱代詞賓格後可接both。可以說both of us(you，them)，壹般不說both us(you，them)，但可以說us(you，them)both。 二、Both與動詞連用時，大多數放在系動詞be之後，其它動詞之前。 如：His parents are both workers. They both enjoy reading. 若句中謂語動詞包含情態動詞或助動詞時，both大多放在第壹個情態動詞或助動詞之後。 如：The bridges must both be built this year. 兩座橋都必須在今年修建。 kate and Mary have both gone to English. 凱特和瑪麗都去了英國。 三、Both可與and構成並列連詞，連接兩個性質相同並在句中作相同成分的並行結構。 如：Both he and his brother are good at English. (連接兩個主語) She can both dance and sing. (連接兩個謂語動詞) Mary is both kind and beautiful. (連接兩個表語) 四、含both的句子變為否定時，是將both改為neither。 如：當肯定句為Both of the boys are clever.(兩個男孩都聰明)時，否定句當為Neither of the boys are clever.(兩個男孩都不聰明)。Both後接復數名詞，neither後接單數名詞，動詞的人稱和數也要隨之變化。若把句子變為Both of the boys are not clever，則是不完全否定。意思是：並不是兩個男孩都聰明(壹個聰明壹個愚笨)。 五、含both…and…的句子變為否定句時，將both…and…改為neither…nor..，連接的兩個部分若是名詞，可以是單數，也可以是復數。 如：I know both the man and the woman. 我既認識那男子，也認識那婦女。 I know neither the man nor the woman. 我既不認識那男子，也不認識那婦女。 Both beats and birds would have the bat as their friend. 壹Neither beats nor birds would have the bat as their friend. 記住both的用法
1．和謂語動詞連用時，both應放在 be動詞、助動詞和情態動詞之後，行為動詞之前。例如：
My parents are both doctors．我父母都是醫生。
The two sisters can both drive cars．這兩位姐妹都能開汽車。
They will both stay here for another day or two．他們倆在這兒將再逗留壹兩天。
註意：在簡略回答以及感嘆句中， both不能位於句尾，要放在be動詞、助動詞或情態動詞之前。例如：
“Are your parents workers？”“Yes， they both are．”“妳父母是工人嗎？”“是的，他們倆都是工人。”
How clever they both are！他們倆多聰明啊！
2．both可直接放在名詞前作定語。但如果名詞前有其它限定詞，如the， these，my或two等，則應放在這些詞前面，也可以用both of加上這些詞。如：可以說both（of）the books，both（of）his hands等。不能說the both books，his both hands等。例如：
Both（of）my parents work in a hos- pital．（＝My parents both work in a hos- pital．）我父母都在醫院工作。
3．both和代詞連用時，應說they both（作主語），both of them（作主語或賓語），them both（作賓語）等形式，不能說 both they或both them等。例如：
We must thank both of you．（＝We must thank you both．）我們應該感謝妳們倆。
Both of us are from Canada．（＝We are both from Cana-da．）我們倆都是加拿大人。
