在the way+從句中, the way 是先行詞, 其後是定語從句，它有三種表達形式：
1、 the way+that?
2、the way+ in which?
3、the way + 從句(省略了that或in which)
在通常情況下, 用in which 引導的定語從句最為正式,用that的次之,而省略了關系代詞that 或 in which 的, 反而顯得更自然,最為常用.如下面三句話所示,其意義相同.
另外，在當代美國英語中，the way用作為副詞的對格，"the way+從句"實際上相當於壹個狀語從句來修飾全句，如下；
1、the way=as
（1）、I'm talking to you just the way I'd talk to a boy of my own.
我和妳說話就象和自己孩子說話壹樣.
（2）、He did not do it the way his friend did.
他沒有象他朋友那樣去做此事.
2、the way=according to the way/judging from the way
（1）、The way you answer the qquestions, you must be an excellent student.
從妳回答就知道,妳是壹個優秀的學生.
（2）、The way most people look at you, you'd think a trashman was a monster.
從大多數人看妳的目光中,妳就知道垃圾工在他們眼裏是怪物.
3、the way=how/how much
（1）、I know where you are from by the way you pronounce my name.
從妳叫我名字的音調中,我知道妳哪裏人.
（2）、No one can imaine the way he misses her.
人們很想想象他是多麽想念她.
3、the way=because
No wonder that girls looks down upon me, the way you encourage her.
難怪那姑娘看不起我, 原來是妳慫恿的
4、the way =while/when(表示對比)
（1）、From that day on, they walked into the classroom carrying defeat on their shoulders the way other students carried textbooks under their arms.
從那天起，其他同學是夾著書本來上課,而他們卻帶著"失敗"的思想負擔來上課。
