標題是用來組織文章，使得其有層次架構。APA格式規定了文章內“標題”的特定格式（1到5級），第六版APA修訂和簡化的之前的標題格式。級數和格式如下：
第1級：居中、加粗的大小寫標題（Centered, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase Headings）
第2級：左對齊、加粗的大小寫標題（Left-aligned, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase Heading）
第3級：縮進、加粗，以句號結尾的小寫標題（Indented, boldface, lowercase heading with a period.Begin body text after the period.）
第4級：縮進、加粗、斜體，以句號結尾的小寫標題（Indented, boldface, italicized, lowercase heading with a period.Begin body text after the period.）
第5級：縮進、斜體，以句號結尾的小寫標題（Indented, italicized, lowercase heading with a period.Begin body text after the period.）
總是從第1級標題開始使用，例如：（此處由於百科的問題無法顯示格式，用文字解釋，歡迎修改）

並無六級以上的標題規定。 “Introduction”部分不需要標題，且APA格式不允許“數字”和“單壹字母”出現在標題之首。
