《別丟掉》是林徽因為紀念徐誌摩遇難周年而創作的懷人作品，也是她的代表作。作為現代文學史上的兩位著名的詩人，林徽因和徐誌摩壹生始終保持著壹種特殊關系。早年他們在英國發生的戀情，雖然無果而終，卻奠定了這種關系的基礎。然而，在他們全部感情交往中，我們看到更多的是徐誌摩的熱情、直率以及這種感情對他短暫壹生的深刻影響。林徽因由於理性、個人經歷及性格因素，在行為上努力進行淡化處理。使林徽因本人在與徐誌摩的關系中成為示情的背景。壹九三六年在上海的徐誌摩，為趕時間聽取林徽因在北京進行的建築學報告而搭乘郵政飛機遇難。林徽因在極度的悲痛中懷念著這位能夠以心相交的朋友，並將飛機殘骸中的壹塊木板掛在臥室裏做永恒的紀念。壹九四零年徐誌摩去世四周年林徽因寫下了意味深長的《別丟掉》
