兩個詞首先詞性不同。fear可以做動詞和名詞，而afraid是形容詞，只作表語。
1、afraid 意思是怕，害怕。它是形容詞，通常與to be連用，可以廣泛地用以表示害怕心理。
例如：Don't be afraid. 不要害怕。
We are not afraid of difficulties. 我們不怕困難。
That is what I was afraid of. 我所怕者就在於此。
I was afraid of hurting his feelings. 我害怕傷他的感情。

2、fear 意思是害怕。它是動詞，與be afraid往往可以通用，但不如 be afraid常用（特別是在口語中）。

He feared to speak his mind．他不敢說出自己的想法。
Fearing that he would catch cold， I went out to see him．因為怕他會受驚，我走去看他。
