故事發生在1938年的奧地利薩爾茲堡，年輕活潑的修女瑪麗亞·任納爾(Maria Rainer)到退役海軍上校馮·特拉普家，照顧他的七個孩子。馮·特拉普上校雖然冷漠嚴厲，但終究還是抵擋不住瑪麗亞的純潔善良，兩人終於結婚，可惜剛剛渡完蜜月，他們的安靜生活因被納粹占領奧地利而破碎了。
幕後制作：
影片改編自同名舞臺劇（而舞臺劇又改編自瑪麗亞的自傳），風格清新，雅俗***賞，片中的歌曲膾炙人口，人物純樸而正直的思想感情動人心弦。奧地利外景美不勝收：皚皚白雪、粼粼波光、碧綠的草地、典雅的建築，為當地帶來巨額旅遊收入。女主角的表演細膩感人，她的歌喉更是美妙動人，是不折不扣的天樂。本片榮獲第38屆奧斯卡最佳影片、最佳導演等5項大獎。該故事曾於1956年由德國搬上銀幕，片名是《川普壹家》（Die Trapp?Familie），還有壹部《川普壹家在美國》的續集。
花絮：
·影片的第壹個音樂片段“音樂之聲”，是工作人員在返回洛杉機之前，在歐洲拍攝的最後壹場。當時是1964年的六月末七月初，盡管看起來陽光明媚，朱麗·安德魯斯不得不在山間不斷地跳來跳去，天氣寒冷刺骨。導演羅伯特·瓦斯說那個時候，為了全面地看到高空攝影拍攝的畫面，他不得不爬到附近的壹棵樹上。
·在影片結束全家人爬到山上的時候，出於安全考慮，馮·恰皮上校肩膀上的格裏特不是她本人。在DVD版本中顯示，在澳大利亞的時候，金·卡拉斯就增加了不少體重。這場是電影最後部分戲之壹，也是另壹個原因，因為她已經太重了而不容易被克裏斯托弗·普拉默背到肩上。於是在影片中出現的這個小孩是在克裏斯托弗的要求下，找來的侏儒替身，體重只有格裏特的壹半。
·馬裏·馬丁是原百老匯版本裏瑪麗婭的角色和該電影的制片人，最終將使得影片成本增加到八千萬美元，相比較而言，安德魯斯的片籌只要兩百二十五萬美元。
·音樂劇在百老匯上映的兩年前，派拉蒙向馮·恰皮·辛格買下了故事的版權，並打算讓奧黛麗·赫本出演瑪麗婭。赫本表示拒絕出演，派拉蒙隨即拋棄該電影計劃。
·在影片拍攝到他們從船上掉進水裏的場景，為了保持濕漉漉的樣子，演員們不得不反復被水龍頭澆得滿身是水的。
